Wild places

I am pleased to present this time a series of portraits dear to me, with Gabi. Gabi you already know, I’ve taken her photos in the previous years. I was very happy when she told me she’s up for it, because i know what a great model she is, and it’s very easy to work with her. We got started with the idea of portrait on the beach at sunset sometime, given that both of us were free only after 5.30 -6. Said and done. At 6.30 in the evening, one day last week we met. We decided that we didn’t like to take pictures in front of everybody, so to speak, and Gabi would feel much better if we went somewhere more isolated. I previously heard only good things to Vadu Beach, so we decided to go there. Now when I look back I realize that these pictures could have been taken closer to home, in Navodari or even Mamaia. But we chose Vadu. Neither of us had been there before.

I’m mostly not sorry we went up there. The road was worth it. I promised myself to go there again in May this summer, at sunset of course, because the road there is superb. It’s long and twisty, unpaved, but it’s ok because you end up driving mostly on compact dirt, and not on rocks and pebbles. So it’s pretty much smooth, maybe a bit like rocking on the waves when you’re in a boat. Perhaps a bit more energic. But the view makes all the difference. I don’t know how to put it into words, but I hope I’ll get to show you soon.

Anyway, at the end of a long and twisted road we arrived at the beach. And to my surprise, knowing that the beach was supposed to be empty, it was actually full of people. So we ended up taking the pictures not on the beach itself, but somewhere nearby. Big mistake, I can say now, looking back. For an hour or an hour and a half, as long as it took us to take the photos, mosquitoes ate us alive. There were hundreds … we were followed by whole swarms. On the beach at the water’s edge – nothing.

Anyway, I hope it was worth it and I hope you enjoy the photos.

Drumul a meritat.
